I agree with some of what you said, but I do not agreee that choosing to publish traditionally and/or signing with an agent is making a pact with the deveil. I found a press that very much respects my values b/c they have similar values. There are all sorts of agents and presses out there, and all sorts of goals that writers have for their careers.
